Ecuador (2023-): Prosthetic Footshell

Hidden image

DESCRIPTION

Some major issues for lower limb amputees are health of the residual limb, comfort, and proper suspension of the prostheses. We are working with Protesis Imbabura, located in Ibarra Ecuador. The footshell is designed to mimic a foot to allow for wearing shoes and for enabling patients to have their prosthetic look somewhat like a real leg. Footshells are attached to the bottom of the prosthetic limb.

IMPLEMENTATION

We are currently working with Protesis Imbabura on the testing of footshells on patients. Footshells have been made with silicone and with 3D printed materials. Several footshells have been placed on patients for over two years. The footshell design is continually being optimized and tested.
